Day 11

I want to say how much easier it's gotten. But Jillian is still kicking my butt. I didn't do it last Friday or Sunday because of a never ending migraine. But aside from those two days I've stuck with it. I'm mostly using Level 2, but sometimes I go back to Level 1 for a day. Level 2 seems like there's just so much more with arms (all that plank stuff -- good grief) and after a couple of days my arms are just jelly.

I haven't noticed much of a weight change, but hopefully there's some fat to muscle stuff going on. I do feel a little less flabby, particularly in the tummy area (yay!). And I feel like I've got more endurance to keep up with it. I wouldn't say "Oh my gosh my clothes fit so much better!" but it's only 11 days.

My favorite Jillian line from Level 2: "When you're done with this cardio I want you to be gargling your heart!!" Girlfriend means business.

Here we go again.

After months and probably years (or let's be honest, my life) of not really exercising much or consistently, I am 8 days into the 30 Day Shred. If you've watched the Biggest Loser, you know that Jillian Michaels is evil. But girlfriend gets results. A few of the bloggers I follow are doing it, and I'm all for a new bandwagon to jump. Plus I have a lovely collection of workout DVDs collecting dust, and if nothing else this is a wonderful addition. One person had commented that they were on Day 11, and their clothes were fitting a little better. I'M IN.

I picked up the DVD at Target, and gave it a go the next morning. When I was almost finished, I believe my thoughts were, "Please, Sweet Jesus, take me home now." Especially as a non-exerciser, it was a bit much for me, even on Level 1. By the end of Day 2, I needed ibuprofen just to get up out of my chair.

Jillian's got a 3-2-1 system. Three minutes of strength training (with handweights). Two minutes of cardio. One minute of ab work. There are 3 circuits of the 3-2-1. I prefer to take it out when my family is gone, so I can cry.

During the workout, Jillian encourages her exercisers with things like, "If we're going to promise big results, you're going to have to work for it!" And "I know this is hard, but I've had 400 lb. people do this, so keep going!" Or my favorite, "If you're looking for a modified jumping jack, you will not find it here!" And then there's the time when she's using one of her exercise slaves to show us the proper pushup, and she says to her, "Oh, is this easy for you?" And then she pushes on her back, "How's that?? How do you like me now??"

It's a wonder her contestants on Biggest Loser haven't smacked her into next week.

It's getting better though. I don't need the ibuprofen anymore, and I made it to Level 2. I'm not sure if anything's happening or not, but I think if I can make it through the workout without throwing up or passing out, it's a victory. Even if my limbs melt right off. So I'm going to try and make it all 30 days.

I'll keep you posted. Unless I give up and quit, in which case I'll probably never bring it up again.

New exercise regimen

Shoveling. I've been shoveling. Doesn't look like I'll have to give it up any time soon. Another 2-4 inches today or tomorrow, I don't remember anymore.

How exciting.

I just did 30 minutes of Wii Fit (30 minutes of actual piggybank time)! I did SOMETHING! And I'm getting much better at rhythm boxing.

I love the Wii Fit. It's fun. I do something without feeling like I'm torturing myself. But I still feel like I did something. I have one complaint. All the stand around time. It'd be nice if you could set up a workout to just keep going. Rather than all this "press A" time. I think it took 45 minutes or something to get 30 minutes in the piggybank.

Has anyone tried the Jillian Michaels for Wii Fit?

Think Thin Thursday goals

Oh New Year, and your resolutions. I'm not making it a New Year resolution, because that's too much pressure.

This week. Just this week. That's all I'm going to focus on. I'd like to get 3 30 minute workouts in. And I'd also like to try to do a few minutes of whatever every day. Because a few minutes has got to be better than nothing. If I get nothing more done than a few situps or squats or something, I'm going to be happy for those few minutes. I have a tendency to think if I can't carve out 30-45 minutes, it's not worth doing anything (which means I just don't do anything, ever). But surely 10 minutes makes a difference if it's all I can do.

As for a weight loss goal, I don't have one right now. Because I haven't weighed myself in the past couple weeks. Holidays. I didn't want to know. Maybe next week I'll brave it.

Happy New Year!

Think Thin Thursday

It's Think Thin Thursday -- time for an update.

I finally reached my goal (that one pound one from a while ago)! It took a couple more weeks than I wanted, but since I had gained a couple of extra pounds and ended up with 3 to lose, I feel pretty good about it. It's such a challenge with holiday deliciousness everywhere. I've tried to reign in the cookie intake, and I even chose to forgo a couple of great chai opportunities to skip the calories.
AND. I exercised. Once. But that's better than nothing. And I liked the DVD I used. I will try it again.

My goal for next week: 1 more pound!

I did 25 minutes of Tae Box! Hooray!
Since I didn't meet my goal last week, I was hoping this week to get back down to my goal (which is 2 pounds now). We'll see. I got myself up off my laurels, and I'm considering that a victory.
